According to Ephesians 2:8-10, it is what we are saved to do.
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
If God saved us "to do good works" which He has already prepared for us to do, and we are not engaged in those good works, no wonder most Christians feel unfulfilled!
Along with encouraging and provoking one another unto good works, we regularly participate in planned service projects. We believe that if a church takes away service, you take away the church's power, influence, and evangelistic effectiveness. We serve because serving is at the core of our being, the reflection of who we are as Christ-followers. However; service, in spite of all the wonderful things it can accomplish, is not sufficient to lead a person to saving faith in Jesus. Good works can be the bridge or the road, but they are not the saving message that crosses that bridge or travels that road. Good works are the complement but never the substitute for the good news.
We have found service transends age bounderies. No matter how young or old, when we do what we are created to do, there is a joy in serving others that cannot be explained. Matthew 5:16 says, "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven." The following are some of the things we have been able to do to shine the Light and glorify the Father.
-
Feeding the hungry and homeless
-
Helping those in need
-
Distributing water
-
Giving gift bags
-
$1 car wash (actually we paid them the dollar)
-
Giving baked goods to our neighbors
-
Washing car windows at a local gas station
We invite you to join us as we shine our lights and show God's love in a practical way.
